This Superformance AC Cobra was an absolute pleasure to work on and bring to life for our customer. The car found its way to us after the owner learned about our experience getting a Superformance-built Shelby Daytona Coupe road registered here in New Zealand. With that track record, he knew we were the right team to help finish his Cobra.
When the Cobra arrived, it was a rolling chassis. The engine and gearbox had been installed by Sonter Automotive, and from there, our role was to carry out the remainder of the build.
Some of the key jobs we undertook included:
- Designing and fabricating custom headers paired with a 3-inch stainless steel twin exhaust system
- Building a brake pedal and a certified driveshaft hoop
- Constructing a full fuel system with aluminium hard lines running front to back
- Performing chassis modifications where needed
- Building the cooling system and plumbing in the oil coolers
- Completing throttle linkages, installing harnesses, and fabricating a custom air cleaner to fit under the bonnet
- Mounting the electronics, running the looms, and carrying out numerous smaller tasks required for certification
Now fully road-registered, this Cobra is a joy to see out on New Zealand roads — and even more rewarding to know the owner is thoroughly enjoying his investment.
At the end of the day, projects like this remind us why we love what we do: taking world-class machinery and making it road-ready for enthusiasts who appreciate them as much as we do.
